JIM STEELE - HOST
"The Man of Steele"
Award-winning sports writer Jim Steele is your host of 'The Pressbox'.
Steele has won over 40 state awards for sports writing, photography and
at five different papers. He's been named Tennessee's top sports writer
by the Tennessee Sports Writer Association, his sports section was
judged best in the state by the Tennessee Press Association on two
occasions, and he won five straight first-place honors for best football
section in the state, six times in a nine-year span and runner-up the
other three years. He was a finalist for Sports Writer of the year six
times, runner-up four times before winning the top honor 2004. He also
received the TSSAA's A.F. Bridges Award and the J.A. Abernathy Award
from the McKenzie Touchdown Club.
Steele has covered a variety of sports at a variety of levels from
Little League all the way up to the Big Leagues. He has interviewed such
notables as Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning, Ozzie Smith, Jack Buck, Mark
McGwire, Rick Pitino, Pat Summitt, to name a few. His work has appeared
in almost every major daily newspaper in Tennessee, on regional and
national radio as well as ESPN television. He has been involved with
sports media for over 30 years and has been a part of radio, TV,
newspaper, magazine and Internet media in that time. Steele is a fan of
the Cincinnati Reds, Miami Dolphins, the Tennessee Vols (when they don't
stink) and Duke basketball and the Boston Celtics. He is a fan of all
sports, but lists baseball, tennis, football and basketball among his
favorites. Thumbing his nose to Father Time, he's always looking for a
tennis game or a batting practice partner.
